The US officially declared the War on Terrorism, which was triggered by the September 11 attacks where Al-Qaeda terrorists crashed 3 planes into the World Trade Center and Pentagon in the United States, killing nearly 3,000 people.

The Iraq War, part of the War on Terrorism, started with the U.S.-led coalition that invaded Iraq and overthrew the government of Saddam Hussein who was later executed by the Iraqi government.

Natural disasters violate the world: hurricanes and devastating tsunamis take victims and destroy homes.

The American Dennis Tito becomes the first space tourist by paying $20 million to board the International Space Station for one week.

Mars Exploration Rover mission of NASA to explore the Martian surface and geology managed to send data and images of the landscape to the Earth.

Broadband Internet use becomes massive and the online space is more popular than ever, revolutionizing communication tools such as emails, chats, social networking websites, etc. Use of internet as a commerce place discovered new ways of doing business with travel reservations, stock trading, and retail shopping being only part of it, also allowing for self-service any time anywhere.
